This issue, which started out as a single problem (night weaning) has expanded into a dual problem.
DS, who will be 2 next month, still relies on nursing to go to sleep. He nurses for naps and bedtime and since we co-sleep part of the night (once he wakes up after I've gone to bed) he will nurse on and off overnight as well. I can get him to take a break sometimes by telling him it's time to go to sleep, but not always. So part one of my problem is to wean him at least from night nursing now. I'm very ready to do so, and I know I can do that...it will be hard but it can be done. Except...
...he suffers from eczema, which seems to be worse at night. He wakes scratching (his feet mostly, but also his legs and sometimes his head) and when he's mad he scratches more. Sometimes by nursing him back to sleep I can avoid the itchies, but not always. Still, it's a tool that works on occasion.
I just foresee some really miserable nights ahead. He is not going to be happy about night weaning, but his distress will cause him to itch more...and I hate to be the cause of even more discomfort for the little guy.
Has anyone been there, done that in a similar situation?
