We live in North Carolina and LOVE it. Its just gorgeous across the entire state. Oceans to the East, Mountains to the West. Its so lush and green. Lots of history. It has a Southern flare, but its not "deep South". We get all four seasons, and all of them are beautiful. June- August gets hot and humid, but not unbearable. Hurricanes do happen, but its mostly coastal. We haven't had a hurricane affect us yet (we have lived in Raleigh and Greensboro areas).
Cost of living depends where you live, but is generally medium from my experience of living in Idaho and California (opposite ends of the spectrum).
If I could live anywhere it would probably be Oregon, I think. My only complaint with North Carolina is that I want to live away from DH's family and closer to mine. Coastal Oregon is beautiful and is at least closer to my family. I love them dearly, but don't want to live in Idaho where they are. Otherwise, I would happily stay here in NC.
