This is kind of random.. but my son (2 years old) was at the sitters house last week. She texted me to let me know that he had accidentally cracked her screen on her phone. She said that her alarm went off and he went to take it off the counter and it fell and the screen smashed. She showed it to me when I picked him and it was damaged pretty extensively. She never asked me to pay for or replace it. Though, my conscience was telling me that was the thing to do; my mentality was thinking that it really wasn't my responsibility... am I wrong?
My thoughts are these: 1 - he was in your care, you should have been watching him closely. 2 - you have children of similar and older age, you should know to keep valuables out of reach and when that's not possible, that accidents happen! 2b - knowing you have children around all the time, prepare your phone for such situations (ex: I have tempered glass on my phone with case) 3 - I never saw the phone before hand and 3b - I don't know that my child was the responsible one (though, I am in NO way calling her a liar! I do believe she is an honest person and he likely did go get her phone) just stating that..
Now with all that being said... Is it my responsibility to pay for some or all of her phone? or the screen? Should I have offered?
* side note, I am going there (almost as we speak...) to give her something towards the screen replacement. Because I just felt like I *should but I'm just wondering if that's truly my responsibility.
Thanks for any input or thoughts you may have,
